Theatre of Fact, also called Documentary Theatre, came out of the social protest movement that arose during the years of depression in the 1930s, a unit of the WPA Federal Theatre Project in the United States adopted what it called a Living Newspaper technique. Brought social issues to the stage by emphasizing factual information over aesthetic considerations. In Germany, dramatic movement that arose during the early 1960s and examined recent historical events, often through official documents, court records & trial transcripts. Theatrical production consisting of dramatizations of current events, social problems, and controversial issues, with appropriate suggestions for improvement. The Living Newspaper was initiated in the United States in 1935 as part of the Federal Theatre Project. One of its major supporters was Elmer Rice, a dramatist and producer who believed in the value of drama as an instrument of social change. It became the most effective new theatre form developed by the Project, vividly dealing, in flashing cinematic techniques, with the realities of agriculture, housing, and economics
